Batteries
Power for your Meshtastic, MeshCore, and LoRa builds. Whether you are replacing an ageing battery, extending the runtime of a portable device, or building a solar-powered node, choosing the right battery matters. The wrong capacity limits your runtime. The wrong connector means soldering. The wrong protection circuit shortens the life of your device.
At Hexaspot we stock batteries that are pre-terminated, pre-tested, and matched to the exact devices we sell. No adapters, no guesswork, no returns because of an incompatible connector.
Which Battery Do I Need?
The right battery depends on which device you are powering. Here is the quick guide:
| Device Family | Connector | Typical Battery |
|---|---|---|
| Heltec (V3, V4, T114 V2, Wireless Tracker V2) | PH 2.0 (JST PH 2.0 mm pitch) | 3.7V LiPo with PH 2.0 connector, 1000 to 3000 mAh |
| RAKwireless WisMesh (Pocket V2, Tag, TAP V2) | Integrated, not user-replaceable | Devices ship with pre-installed batteries. Not sold separately. |
| WisBlock (RAK4630, custom builds) | Molex 1.25 mm pitch | 3.7V LiPo with Molex connector, capacity depending on build |
| Solar repeater and outdoor builds | Depends on charge controller | 18650 cells or LiPo packs, 3000 to 10,000 mAh |
Why Choose Genuine Batteries?
- Correct connector pre-terminated: plug it in and it works. No soldering, no crimping, no risk of shorting the wires wrong.
- Correct dimensions: fits inside the original device housing without modification.
- Correct voltage and charging profile: matches the requirements of the device's onboard charge controller.
- Built-in protection circuit: guards against overcharging, over-discharging, overcurrent, and short circuits. This protects both the battery and your device.
- Genuine manufacturer batteries: the ones we sell are made by the device manufacturer or verified compatible suppliers, not cheap clones with inflated capacity claims.
Battery Capacity in Practice
For most Meshtastic and MeshCore devices, battery life depends on three things: the capacity (mAh), the device's power consumption (nRF52 based devices use much less than ESP32 based), and how often you transmit. Here are realistic runtime estimates:
| Device | Battery Size | Realistic Runtime |
|---|---|---|
| Heltec V3 or V4 (ESP32) | 1000 mAh | 8 to 16 hours typical use |
| Heltec V3 or V4 (ESP32) | 3000 mAh | 1 to 2 days typical use |
| Heltec Wireless Tracker V2 (with GPS) | 3000 mAh | 1 to 2 days with GPS active |
| WisBlock nRF52840 (low power builds) | 3000 mAh | 5 to 10 days typical use |
If you need multi-day runtime on a Heltec board, combine a 3000 mAh battery with a small solar panel connected to the V4's dedicated solar input. That gives you autonomous outdoor operation for weeks or months.
Safety and Storage
Lithium polymer batteries require correct handling. Some basics to remember:
- Charge only via your device's onboard charging circuit or a compatible LiPo charger. Never charge with a random USB power supply directly connected to the battery.
- Store batteries at approximately 50 percent charge, between +10°C and +25°C, for maximum longevity when not in use.
- Do not puncture, short circuit, expose to fire, or leave in extreme temperatures.
- If a battery becomes swollen, hot to the touch, or damaged in any way, stop using it immediately and dispose of it at your local battery recycling point.
- Dispose of used batteries in accordance with EU battery regulations, not in household waste.
